The load-bearing horizontal level of a shelf compartment.

The horizontal shelf on which the goods rest; together with the beams it determines the shelf load.

Profile that holds the shelf and sets the height increments.

Angle/profile into which the shelf is hooked; it sets the height position within the hole pattern.

The vertical, perforated upright that carries the shelves.

Two uprights plus bracing as a lateral load-bearing structure.

Laterally braced unit made of two uprights; it absorbs the load and provides stability.

crossbeam #

Horizontal load-bearing profile (longitudinal rail) for load and bracing.

End stop on the cantilever arm to prevent round stock from rolling off.

Divides or bounds cantilever arms and prevents round stock from rolling off unintentionally. Required to DGUV 108-007 when storing round stock.

Agraffe #

Hook lug on longitudinal rails/beams for hooking into the upright.

(French agrafe = hook) Hook lug on longitudinal rails or beams. The hooks transfer the loads into the upright profile and additionally brace the rack.

spacer #

Connecting element that keeps an even spacing between racks.

Used on pallet racking to ensure an even spacing between adjacent racks during assembly.

Push-through protection #

Prevents pallets from being pushed through unintentionally.

Rear stop against pushing the pallet through. It is not intended to be used deliberately as a pallet stop.

fixing angle #

Bracing angle at fixed positions in bolted shelving units.

Angle bracket with integrated nuts that braces bolted shelving units (META FIX) at defined positions and makes assembly easier.

Plate at the upright foot for load distribution and anchoring.

Distributes the load onto the building floor and allows the rack to be anchored (with dowels).

beam #

Load-bearing longitudinal beam (support beam) in pallet/wide-span racking.

Horizontal beam on which pallets or shelves rest. It is hooked into the uprights via agraffes and secured against lift-out with a safety pin.

picking shelf #

Surface for collecting goods that have been picked.

Fitted to racking with sloped levels or roller tracks to make it easy to assemble picked goods.

safety pin #

Secures beams on pallet racking against lift-out.

Prevents the beams from being lifted out unintentionally and is to be used on pallet racking.

adjusting screw #

Lift-off lock on the cantilever arm (META MULTISTRONG L+M).

When tightened, a plate with two teeth presses into the upright profile and cantilever arm; the arm lifts slightly, round stock rolls towards the upright and the arm cannot be removed unintentionally.

upright profile #

Vertical, cold-formed load-bearing element of the frames.

Obtains its geometry through cold forming and is joined into load-bearing frames via depth struts/a C-profile truss (on bolted racking via shelves and fixing angles). It transfers the bay load into the building floor.

depth brace #

Cross-connection between the two uprights of a frame.

Connects the uprights of a frame in depth and makes it load-bearing and rigid (clinched on META CLIP).

support beams #

Reinforcement beneath shelves/beams against deflection.

Increase the load capacity and prevent deflection of shelves or chipboard; on stepped beams they also prevent the beams from twisting out under load.

Cross member (depth) or longitudinal member – depending on shelf type.

Technology & safety 12

S3-variant #

Fully flat-packed META CLIP frame variant – assembled on site.

On META CLIP, "S3" refers to the fully flat-packed frame variant (counterpart: pre-assembled, clinched frames). The frames are slotted together on site without tools and braced via diagonal struts (single-sided) or longitudinal rails (double-sided). S3 is a delivery and assembly variant – not a safety or inspection marking.

Clinchen #

Joining sheet metal by forming instead of welding.

Cold-forming process that joins sheet metal positively and permanently without any filler material.

load capacity #

Maximum permissible load of a component or rack.

The maximum load that a component or rack may safely bear; always observe it.

Load spread evenly across the shelf – the basis for load ratings.

Load assumption in which the weight rests evenly across the area. Point/single loads reduce the permissible load.

spill tray #

Sealed floor tray that safely retains leaking liquids.

Liquid-tight tray beneath or within the rack that catches leaking water-hazardous substances and thus meets the statutory storage regulations.

clinched frame / shelves #

Press-joining process without welding (META CLIP).

During clinching the upright and depth struts/full panel are press-joined. The pre-assembled frames are very stable, do not obstruct shelf installation and the process is more environmentally friendly than welding.

anchoring #

Fixing the rack to the building floor (anchoring with dowels).

Racks are anchored to the building floor with dowels via the foot plates; this increases stability (observe the requirements depending on rack type and height).

Bracing 3

Bracing #

Measures that stabilise the rack against displacement.

Achieved via diagonals (tension crosses) or via longitudinal rails/beams. Shelving units are usually braced diagonally, pallet racking via the frame action of the beams.

diagonal bracing #

Rear bracing made of diagonal rods.

Diagonal crosses on the rear of the rack absorb tensile forces – a very efficient form of bracing, common on shelving and cantilever racking.

longitudinal bracing #

Bracing of boltless shelving via longitudinal rails.

Longitudinal rails are angle profiles with one agraffe on the left and right; fitted at defined spacings, with the shelf laid into the folded angles. Diagonal bracing is the standard.

Dimensions & structural design 4

compartment height #

Distance from the top of a shelf/compartment to the top of the next (= buckling length).

Distance from the top of the building floor or a rack compartment to the top of the next compartment (also buckling length). The largest distance is structurally decisive and directly affects the load capacity (bay load).

shelf load #

Permissible, evenly distributed load of one shelf level.

Loading of a shelf level/shelf between two frames; the load should rest evenly across the entire area. The sum of the shelf loads gives the bay load.

bay load #

Total load capacity of a rack bay (the area between two frames).

The sum of the shelf loads permissible one above the other must not exceed the permissible bay load. It is influenced by the compartment height.

buckling length #

Another term for the (structurally decisive) compartment height.

electrogalvanizing #

Thin zinc layer applied electrolytically.

Cleaned components are dipped into a zinc-salt solution; an applied current deposits zinc in a thin layer on the surface (corrosion protection).

Sendzimir galvanizing #

Continuous galvanising in a molten zinc bath.

Steel strip/sheet is annealed and heat-treated in a continuous furnace and passed through a zinc bath; the zinc coating is regulated by an air-knife process (characteristic crystal structure).
